This team is the primary group working with communities on obtaining funding for their wildfire resiliency projects including all FireSmart Activities under the seven FireSmart Disciplines. They assist Nations with project planning, completing funding applications, and provide technical advice of wildfire resiliency. Funders include both the Community Resiliency Investment Program-FireSmart Community Funding and Supports (CRI-FCFS) and ISC-FNESS programs. This team also assists Nations to manage their approved projects by ensuring projects stay on track, providing technical advice, assist in the development of Community Wildfire Resiliency Plans (CWRP), Fuel Management Prescriptions (FMP), and Operational Fuel Treatments (OFT), as well as helping communities with their FireSmart activities.
They also advocate for the Nation’s interests with the funders, to improve access and increase the eligible activities.
During the Third and Fourth Quarters (October 1st to March 31st), this team helped:
- Over 30 First Nations communities develop and submit new funding applications
- Secure $2,107,130 of funding for First Nations in Q3 (Oct-Dec 2024)
- Secure $1,079,012 of funding for First Nations is Q4 (Jan-Mar 2025)
In addition to the new projects listed above, this team assisted Nations with the continued oversight of over 150 active projects that include Community Resiliency Planning, FireSmart Activities, and Operational Fuel Treatments.
