FNESS and EMCR Promote the Master of Disaster Program

Dec 19, 2024

The Community Support – Preparedness Division partnered with Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) to promote the Master of Disaster Program at the annual First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) Education Conference.

The event provides an opportunity for educators and education administrators to build knowledge, network and share. The goal of the conference is to increase the capacity of all those in the education system to make transformative changes in First Nations education.

This year the theme of the conference was, Connecting to Our Land, to explore how First Nation connections to the land are the foundation for many aspects of learning and education.

This is a province-wide conference that brings together approximately 750 people annually. In keeping with the principle of lifelong learning, more than two dozen workshops are offered featuring topics of interest to K-12 education adult education, and post secondary education.

Master of Disaster is a free classroom program designed to help young people learn about emergency preparedness. The program teaches youth in grades 4 to 8 about hazards in BC—like floods, wildfires, earthquakes and tsunamis—and shows them how to get prepared.
