Recently, FNESS has delivered several emergency management information sessions to interested staff, volunteers, and leadership from First Nation communities. Typically, these sessions were done in collaboration with a First Nation community who kindly agreed to share their emergency management practices. In many of the sessions, First Nation communities would explain what their emergency management activities were, what worked well, what lessons they learned, and what challenges they faced. Government partners were also invited to the sessions to share information on their programs and funding supports.
The topics in these information sessions ranged from wildfire, flood, drought, and marine emergencies to major government funding programs. In the latest session for example, the main topics were extreme heat events and wildfire smoke.
