Free online Emergency Support Services (ESS) training

FNESS is pleased to announce we are offering FREE online Emergency Support Services (ESS) training sessions this fall. Training sessions are every Wednesday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm starting October 2, 2024 and ending November 13, 2024.

At the end of the ESS Series, you will have a better understanding of the ESS program functions in both large and small scale emergencies, how to fill out ESS forms, and self care during emergencies. 

This training is available to all First Nation communities.

Participants can attend any or all sessions and do not need to commit to attending all 7.

Session 1: ESS Fundamentals

October 2 | 10am – 12pm

  • Understanding the ESS Program
  • Supports ESS can provide
  • The importance of ESS

Session 2: ESS Reception Centre

October 9 | 10am – 12pm

  • When and how to setup a Reception Centre (RC)
  • Roles and responsibilities for volunteers
  • Team communication with the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)

Session 3: Supporting Evacuees & Community Navigator

October 16 | 10am – 12pm

  • Host Communities and Community Navigators, and outside agency support

Session 4: ESS Documents & Needs Assessment

October 23 | 10am – 12pm

  • Registering evacuees and interviews
  • Meeting the needs of evacuees
  • Forms

Session 5: Personal & Family Preparedness

October 30 | 10am – 12pm

  • What to do when disaster strikes
  • Preparing yourself, family, and pets
  • Supplies needed

Session 6: Worker Care & Self-Care

November 6 | 10am – 12pm

  • Importance of worker care and self-care
  • The benefits and support of worker care

Session 7: Group Conversation & Open Discussion

November 13 | 10am – 12pm

  • Participant questions
  • Support for developing ESS Teams
  • Connecting with other ESS support in your region
