In July, we had the privilege of delivering the S-100 Basic Fire Suppression and Safety and S-185 Fire Entrapment Avoidance training to members of the Nooaitch Indian Band. It was an honour to be welcomed into the community and work alongside such a motivated group of participants who brought great energy and eagerness to learn throughout the course.
Rose’s leadership and dedication were central to making this training a success. Rose has been a driving force behind many of Nooaitch’s wildfire preparedness initiatives, and her efforts continue to strengthen the community’s ability to respond to emergencies safely and effectively.
The hands-on nature of the training, paired with meaningful conversations around fire safety, suppression techniques, and local fire risks, made for an engaging and productive two days. We left feeling grateful, not only for the opportunity to support local training efforts but also for the hospitality, laughs, and stories shared along the way.
We’re proud to support Nooaitch in their wildfire preparedness journey and look forward to continuing the work together.
With new Local FireSmart Representatives now trained and confident, and the FireSmart Coordinator and the Youth FireSmart Ambassador already certified as a Wildfire Mitigation Specialists, the community’s ability to assess and mitigate wildfire risk has significantly grown. Their FireSmart program is well-positioned to continue thriving.
