Applications are now open for the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society (FNESS) Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Training Program.
Designed to strengthen wildfire preparedness and emergency management capacity, this fully funded program delivers practical, hands-on training directly within eligible First Nations communities across British Columbia. All instructor and course delivery costs are covered by FNESS, making it easier for communities to access high-quality training close to home.
Communities can apply for one or more of the following courses:
- S-100/S-185 – Basic Fire Suppression & Fire Entrapment Avoidance (2 days)
- WSPP-FF1 – Wildland Fire Operations & Safety for Structural Firefighters (2 days)*
- ICS-100 – Incident Command System (½ day)
- EM-212 – Emergency Management Communications (½ day)
*WSPP-FF1 is intended for communities with an active fire department.
Program Highlights
- Fully funded training at no cost to participating communities
- Rolling intake, subject to funding and instructor availability
- Fall applications are now being accepted
- Training offered year-round, excluding the peak wildfire season (July–August) and the December holiday period
- Designed for groups of up to 20 participants (minimum of 10 participants preferred)
If your community is interested in participating, we encourage you to submit an application. FNESS will work directly with your Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, or designated community contact to coordinate training dates and logistics.
